Debatable. I was shocked as a child, now it raises a lot of questions like "Why didn't the heroes hear the firing of soldiers and tanks? Why didn't they feel the fall of multi-ton monsters to the ground? Why did they have to kill themselves in a calm environment, and not when the monsters approached the car?" In general, as for me, this ending is aimed at shocking the viewer and never claims to be one of the best endings in the history of cinema.
